Website Owners Beware, you have an average of 4 secs to get your visitor attention while assuring them of your credibility. So get a move on!
Some short thoughts on building your web Brand and organizing your web content to design the best interface that ensures Likability, Usability, and Utility.
• Brand yourself or your company before someone else does!
This means control what comes up in search engines for “your company” name.Make sure more of your results are displaying than your competitors or third parties. Create the “visible message” prospects will store away in their sub-conscious, the message that will increase your chances of getting their business next time they see you. Here is a somewhat unrelated but cool piece, on how we learn visually: Visual communication on the web.
• Once built, protect your Brand’s consistency with your life!
DO NOT EVER use different brand colors, images, messages, typography, ideas, etc… What this really means is, be sure if you are purple and like goats, to present yourself as purple and goat-loving throughout all of your web efforts as you’ve done in the original
efforts (e.g. your website, early social media accounts, etc…).
It is imperative to you remain consistent to your core brand proposition; marketing is largely about touch points and messaging, you have to make the most of each touch, or you may not see it again. Here is a another well written article on this branding topic: Rules of Brand Consistency.
•Make your Website & Brand more Likable
The term Website Likability on the internet refers to how drawn a prospect may be to your visual efforts. Use professional design,
spend the extra dollars to add serious flavor and memorability to the way your customers and competitors alike experience you on the internet. This can be problematic if over-used or applied in the wrong instances, but using good Java Script and/or Flash programming to supplement your design style can add a greater sense of visual attraction/satisfaction.
