After watching this video one should understand that we are still only within a small window of context in this growth. My point has lees to do with predicting the destination and more to do with understanding the direction of travel so to speak.

The 6 Actively Practiced Channels of E-Commerce Marketing:

  1. SEO
  2. PPC
  3. Social Media
  4. Affiliate
  5. Email
  6. Mobile

20 years ago perhaps only SEO & Email were clearly visible developing vehicles for outreach and sales funnel development. The scope for such growths couldn’t be recognized on a unilateral bases then, and so we shouldn’t think that it can now. Although a system such a Facebook may not have been perceived as a viable business development channel (or even a noteworthy network for that matter) doesn’t mean it wasn’t considered by many as a possibility. On a more general basis, the moral  here clearly becomes “open-mindedness” and out of the box vision. Whose to say Mobile Internet isn’t the future of communication? Many now think so, I personally fall back on the limitations of mobile against the active interactive marketing landscape, but maybe I shouldn’t.

Now the buck doesn’t stop with these 6, however these are the elephants of the trade for now. What this conversation demonstrates more than anything is just how dynamically the e-commerce model will evolve. For those immersed in this business it may be dangerously simple to assume that we’re all riding the golden wave of internet based business and entertainment. Perhaps just as the Babylonians, Greeks, and Romans, must have felt about their civilizations, the Europeans and Americans do today. I don’t think I’m alone when I say, we certainly have room for growth and improvement!

What about the Human Processor concepts? Chips in our brain so that our very thoughts can be networked? What does this indicate about humans existential altogether? Technology changes our propensity for being, why not think of the web as the tool to propel spatial interaction to inconceivable heights (if we may call them such), has it already not? Looks like the iPhone and other iPhone based PDA’s are exercising these demons as we speak through the Mobile Internet movement.

For fun, here are a few cool timeline type conceptions of the broad evolution of the internet:

Here’s Walt Mossberg’s (of the Wall Street Journal) take on the “Fall of the PC and Rise of the Mobile device“; concentrating on game changers like the iphone.

Conclusively, one should realize the question that started this discussion is still trying to be answered… The internet is STILL JUST BEGINNING! It everyday grows more and more fluid and illustrates a new method for businesses to relate to consumers and Humans to entertain and interact with one another. After all, I accessed the internet and wrote this blog on my mobile iphone; ok so I didn’t but minus some of the media, I could have!

Until Next Time,

Mikey
